Health & Safety Training

With the constant changes within Health and Safety legislation, it has never been more important to ensure compliance in this field.

Contravening this legislation can result in prosecution, with the possibility of an unlimited fine or even imprisonment.

All employers are required to have the correct systems in place to ensure a healthy and safe working environment for employees and any other people who may be affected by their business activities.

Through achievement of one of our health and safety qualifications, employees will develop the appropriate knowledge and attitude to contribute to an organisation’s continued compliance.

Our of Health and Safety qualifications have been created to assist businesses in complying with legal requirements by demonstrating that staff members have been trained in preventative approaches to hazards and in promoting a positive health and safety culture. They are also designed to ensure that all employees are aware of their own responsibilities and how they contribute to the effective maintenance of health and safety policies.

Level 1 Awards in Health and Safety (QCF)

The HABC Level 1 Awards in Health and Safety have been developed to ensure that employees are equipped with a basic knowledge of health and safety in their workplace, including the duties under UK health and safety legislation.

These qualifications require no former knowledge of Health and Safety and are therefore ideal as part of a company health and safety induction programme, but it could also form part of ongoing refresher training designed to improve the health and safety culture in a workplace.

These qualifications suit a diverse group of individuals ranging from those working in large multinationals to those working in small businesses.

Manual Handling Training (QCF)

Manual handling injuries are the main cause of lost working days in the UK. These occur due to sprains and strains resulting from the incorrect lifting and movement of objects.

In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and subsequent regulations, it is the responsibility of all employers to provide employees with sufficient information and training on manual handling.

Employees can gain a manual handling qualification through Seaton Training to ensure compliance with the regulations and to minimise the costs incurred from work-related lifting injuries.

Training an employee to achieve a manual handling qualification employers have an effective way of ensuring that they have taken the necessary due diligence to ensure their staff are adequately trained.

HABC Level 2 Award in Safe Moving and Handling (QCF)

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations do not set any weight limits for lifting and carrying loads and amendments in 2002 now require employees to have adequate or appropriate knowledge or training in order to make assessments to judge whether safe moving is possible.

The regulations apply to almost all work environments from offices to care homes and factories. There are different risks associated with different sectors and this regulated qualification offers learning outcomes which are suitable for all. The qualification includes:

  • The reasons for safe moving and handling
  • The importance of risk assessment
  • The principles of safe manual handling
  • The safe application of manual handling skills

The qualification provides an effective means of ensuring that employees are aware of their responsibilities and understand the principles of the safe moving and lifting of loads.

RISK ASSESSMENT (QCF)

Every year, thousands of people in the UK are forced to take time off work due to health and safety-related issues. For most, this is a number of days.

However, in some cases people suffer major injuries and even death. A hard-hitting fact is that the vast majority of these incidents could have been avoided if standards of health and safety in the workplace had been better.

Risk assessments carried out correctly will prevent accidents and ill health by recognising what can cause harm and putting in controls to stop that harm from occurring.

HABC Level 2 Award in Risk Assessment (QCF)

This regulated qualification is designed to introduce the principles of risk assessment. It covers why risk assessments are necessary, the legal requirements relating to them and simple processes for carrying them out.

It is suitable for learners working in any environment who need to be more risk aware by raising their knowledge of risk in the workplace and basic steps they can take to control it.

FIRE SAFETY TRAINING (QCF)

General fire safety in England and Wales is maintained through compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

The legislation implements a risk-based approach to fire safety in community, industrial and business premises.

It requires the responsible person (usually the employer, owner or occupier) to carry out a fire safety risk assessment, implement appropriate fire precautionary and protection measures and to maintain a fire management plan.

All members of staff have a role to play in fire safety and the fire safety qualifications support these various roles.

All individuals involved with fire safety must receive all the required information and training to deal with fire safety issues.

The provision of these fire safety qualifications will assist organisations in meeting their legal obligations as well as in providing a much safer working environment for all of their employees.
