Work Package Planning

Documentation on the railways often differs from current recognised practices. Contractors working under a railway specific client will be required to complete documentation that is specific to the railway environments. This documentation often goes through an intensive approval process before works are allowed to proceed.

Work package plans similar to a construction phase plan need to be specific to the works in hand and include all the relevant information that the client may have provided. These work package plans can be completed in a range of formats. Often the lead client has their own specific format that they require documentation to be completed in.

It is not uncommon for work package plans to take 5-10 days for approval involving 4 or 5 revisions of the existing documentation. Work package plans also have a limited lifespan before requiring an official review.

Supporting the work package plan will be task specific briefings covering all the works that a contractor plans to do throughout the phase of the project. Initial task briefings are often reviewed and amended to suit the changes to the work environment and a key to working safely.
